Weaving Materials List

Weaving Materials List

From top to bottom: different warp yarns, two different hand looms (these are the simplest - simple is best) in ideal sizes for the eventual tiny weaves related to books we will be doing, and the bobbin

Above: canvas frame, highly recommended, you can get these in different sizes and it gives you a lot of freedom to make different sized tapestries (for large tapestries you can use other things, I've used all kinds of things, from backs of chairs to large canvas frames specially adapted clothing rails)

Saral tracing paper

Saral paper for tracing. This is wax free and leaves no residue, unlike pigment. In comes in several colors , including white. Here is an example of several colors used (sorry for the dirty paper).

Levni Book of Festivities

Ottoman Levni’s Book of Festivities is just so great, and right up my street (very 1001 Nights somehow). Watch out for much of Levni's Turkish miniatures incorporated into upcoming TALES classes, and look out for those fancy hats! The TALES characters will also comprise Levni’s guilds, and I’ll incorporate the Indo-Persian miniatures we know and love into these figures as well. As usual, I’ll try to be as comprehensive, inclusive and rounded as possible.

Download below, I've shot each facsimile image so you can have the whole thing, as promised! Watch out for Tahmasp Shahnameh, coming in future (when I get some time).

I'll read all the essays myself and share what I've learned from my research in class too about Levni!

With much grateful thanks to Merve Bilgel for the inspiration and to Susan Dobrian for the encouragement and all love to you both!
